Arden was born in a moving cart in the middle of a rainstorm. Her family being gypsies and between towns, that was the only option. She has an older sister, Lorine, an older brother, Flyndan, twin younger brothers, Ethan and Evan, and a younger sister, Daine. Her father is a minstrel, tinker, and jack of all trades and her mother has, in Arden’s opinion, the most beautiful voice of anyone in the world.
Arden herself, takes after her father, and is curious about anything and everything. If there is something new to be seen, heard, or learned, she is there. This curiosity is the core of her personality. She grew up in the caravan, which consisted of various uncles, aunts, and cousins in addition to her family. But when she was 15 her father finally lost his wanderlust and settled in the city.
He runs an inn in Brightwater that is considered one of the best, catering to a wide range of people, from common laborers to fairly well to do merchants. It is a comfortable place, if not fancy, and is famous for its entertainment. Any wandering gypsy or minstrel knows that it has reasonable prices, good food, and good company. It is called The Singing Lark, in honor of Arden’s mother, who can still be persuaded to perform if there is no one else staying at the inn who is inclined to.
Settling down has agreed with Arden, since there is always something new to be seen or heard or learned in the city. As a result she is one of the most reliable and complete sources of information in the city. Now 20 she is 5 feet, 8 inches tall, with red hair and green eyes. While it may sound like she would stand out in a crowd, she has learned almost every way imaginable to disguise her appearance in order or blend in anywhere. Having driven the thieves in the city to near insanity with her curiosity, they decided to give in and teach her at least some of their art, and she quickly showed an aptitude for disguise in all its forms. She is not a very talkative person, unless she is asking questions, but she makes friends easily. This is the key to her information network. Being able to blend into any group and make friends there gets her a lot of information. Most people would be amazed how much their servants hear or see. She doesn’t use disguise unless she has to. By now most people know about her infamous curiosity so seeing her in odd places doesn’t surprise them. And she comes across as very open and perhaps a bit naïve, so most people don’t give her a second thought. Only the paranoid or solitary pay much attention to her if she is around. She is good so she doesn’t sell information that will hurt innocent people, and being friends with thieves has not taught her any real respect for law, but if she hears of a murder being planned or something similar, she will get that information to the right people. But there are very few people who know just how much she knows or what secrets she doesn’t reveal. She has a very specific moral code that she works by and if she doesn’t want you to know something, you won’t ever get it out of her.
She has made a niche for herself buying and selling information. Questing groups often come to her for info and she also goes on quests of her own when she gets bored to widen her information network. She also gets information on specifics from her best friend Neal, who can also sometimes be persuaded to sneak her into the Mage Academy’s library if the need arises.
